Mental Health Systems (MHS) is a non-profit organization founded in 1978 to provide innovative and cost-effective mental health and drug and alcohol recovery services. Our agency was established to improve people’s lives and instill hope by using new and creative treatment strategies that respect time-proven methods of intervention.
Our Family and Youth Alternatives (FYA) program offers substance abuse treatment through three different services: Juvenile Drug Court and Post-Release Outpatient, which are court ordered programs, and Outpatient Drug Free, which is available to any adolescent who wants to attend. FYA is designed to provide structure in a safe and sober, supportive environment for adolescents to work a program of recovery. Our program works in all areas of the lives of those we serve: school, home, social relationships, leisure and play; as we help our clients learn to take personal responsibility for their behavior.
The services at FYA currently include:
Juvenile Drug Court – Adolescents are provided one year of outpatient substance abuse treatment at FYA in collaboration with probation and the juvenile courts. Adolescents in juvenile drug court attend treatment groups, support groups and family groups and report their progress as well as celebrate their success in court with judges assigned to juvenile drug court. Clients must attend 1 ˝ hour group sessions twice a week, as well as a weekly 1 hour adolescent support group. Adolescents who successfully complete juvenile drug court have their sentences dropped.
Post Release Out Patient Services (PROPS) – Following an adolescent’s releases from custody they attend substance abuse post release aftercare services for an additional six months. Clients must attend 1 ˝ hour groups three (3) times a week. Upon successful completion of PROPS, adolescents are removed from probation.
Outpatient drug free (ODF) is a 4-6 month voluntary outpatient program that offers substance abuse education and treatment. Clients must attend 1 ˝ hour group sessions twice a week.
Random drug testing is required in all programs. Family support groups are also available.
